ALL LINKS UPDATED JULY 19, 2012. If you own an earlier version, contact kindle support for a replacement.I read hundreds of the books from this linked list as a kid, both from my father's old collection and from second-hand bookstores. I tried to include all of the classics for kids that are available for free through Amazon, and also concentrated on the series type books I remember so well. Approximately a quarter of the 1000+ listed books are part of series, and these I list by series as well as by author. This list of free classic children's and young adult eBooks works best on Fire, Touch WiFi, kindle 3 and iPad. If you click the linked title, it will bring you directly to the Amazon product page for the free eBook in the kindle store. If you are using a kindle 3, an iPad, or other eBook reader with a decent web browser, you can sign into your Amazon account and download the eBook immediately. Touch 3G users must have WiFi access when using the links. If you are reading on an older kindle 2 or kindle 1, you can add the book to your Wish List and the next time you use a computer to access Amazon, you can have the Wish List items sent to your kindle for free. Or, if you want to begin reading a eBook immediately on an older kindle, you can simply note the title and cover design of the linked eBook in the kindle store, and then search for the title with your kindle. If there are multiple copies, pick the one with the cover that matches, confirm that it is free, and then download it to your kindle. Many of the book series in this list were composed by various authors under a single pseudonym, such as Victor Appleton for the Tom Swift series. I use the pen names in favor of real names since that's the only way most of us recognize these books. Some women, like Mary Louisa Molesworth, chose to published under their husband's name, so that "Mrs. Molesworth" was the name on the books, and that's how I list them. Amazon recently pulled some popular titles for bad formatting, including: "Anne of Green Gables", "Kim" and "The Count of Monte Cristo." So before you complain to Amazon about the formatting of a free eBook, keep in mind that sometimes, poor formatting is better than nothing.
